Travelwise Week 2- #Speedingaroundschools #parkingaroundschoolgatesprogram

Travelwise team was very busy this week.  But, had some awesome fun with the police and Auckland Transport.

Their first mission of the week to promote safe speeds around schools.  We travel to Wordsworth Ave with the police to pull over not only those that were speeding.  But, drivers that were going the speed limit and giving them prizes.

Speed sign for around school areas (40kms)

Our recorded data for this event was

Total number of speeds recorded: 98
Highest speed: 61
Lowest speed: 13
Sums of speed all added together 4,183
Average speed: 42.6kms
Speed limit around schools: 40kms
Number of speeds over the limit: 10 ( we were in a 50km zone)
percentage of drivers over the limit: 10.2%

The police handed out 4 tickets for speeding.  But, they also help parents with knowing how to put children into seat belts correctly.

Our second mission of the week was promoting safe parking around school gates with Auckland Transport and Travelwise team.  In the afternoon there is an issue with cars parking on the yellow line or blocking our school gates.  It is really unsafe.  SO, we were out there giving out prizes to the parents who were making our children safe.
